Thermostat

I have a Buick Grand Nationa 87. I want to know if I can eliminate the thermostat and not have any kind of problems for not having it. Can I do it or do I have to replace it no matter what?

If you're radiator is in good shape the engine will run too cold. If you have an original radiator (That will be clogged up) eliminating the thermostat might help it not run hot around town. But probably run hot in the interstate.

If you're trying to band-aid a clogged radiator, the correct course of action is to get a new unit.

The ''you're car will overheat without a thermostat'' wives tale doesn't apply to a Regal. Our radiator caps aren't on the same tank as the coolant return line. Since there's flues in the way, coolant velocity can't push the cap open and let the coolant out.
