ya know Ive had this dead miss for a while, took car to Louisville ky last week about 70 mph when I fell it go faster cant fell it. so I took my coil pac off and the module has 2 bubbles in the jelly, when I sold autoparts years ago and we got them ford modules that had that problem always thought it was bad. so if it is bad whats the best way to convert the ignition over and to what? the 86-87 or the 3 coil pac set up?

If you have the 84/85 coil module now is the time to convert to the 86/87 coil module and pak. Do a search and it is easy. Brad

FYI-I have found that some aftermarket coil modules will not operate an aftermarket tach gauge. Brad

well I got there and he hands me the ECM, the ICM was 177, I can get a wells from carquest for 148 or go to salvage yard and get the fwd module setup.

code 42

got the module changed over to the 3 coil set-up, now my check engine light on. code 42. got any idea where to look? I also ran the 14ga hot wire thru a relay to pin n. also my LV8 went from 30-40 to 47-50, IAC 22 to 76, MAF 6&7 to 8&9. car seems to run good except it still has that miss when it goes into OD, maybe an injector? but I can tell car has more seat of the pants power :)

I can get a Napa module for $150, they show the coils are the same. so think ill go that route.

be carefull i did this when my car had the 84 motor in it the pack they sold me looks the same and has the same plug but the pin out on the 84 is not the same as the 86 87 as i am sure you know but what i am getting at is the autoparts stores computer says it will work truth is i tried three places and they all sold me the one for the 86 87 and said it was correct i ended up re pinning the harness car ran just fine

yea I repined the harness, you can look at the seal inside the module, there color coded to the connector. 84-85 is blue, 86thru some 92 is green, and the ones that want work are red. think they are the fast start that I hear of.

isnt a code 42 cam sensor?

John:rolleyes:

Trouble Code 42 indicates that there may be a malfunction in the Electronic Spark Timing (EST) system.
Typical causes for this code include:

1) BYPASS line is open or grounded
2) EST line is open or grounded
3) PROM or CALPACK not seated properly in the ECM
4) Poor connections between ignition module and ECM
5) Poor routing of EST harness and/or poor quality ignition wires (EMI induced electrical noise)
6) Faulty or incorrect ignition module
7) Faulty ECM

guess one of my wires isnt making connection.
