I just recently got my car back, b/c my trans had to be rebuilt. The second gear went out on it. Well not even a week after driving the car, it is starting to act up. I dont know if the second gear is burned out or not, but it redlines sometimes instead of shifting into second. This is not under WOT either.
Well, I thought about taking it in and trading it in on a 98 Regal GS. The GS was posted for 99999 with 42532 miles on the odometer, leather seats, and the works. What kind of deal would the dealer work with me and what do you guys think is fair? I also owe like 2500 on my GN. I am just ready for something else, and my wife want another car. What would you guys do?
Thanks

GO 4 IT
I personally would like to have a daily driver that woops Arse if needed.

I went sunday to look at the Harley Ford truck but they were closed & I am not sure if the harley truck is supercharged???

I would consider getting a nice newer BUICK ULTRA park ave with the SC v-6.. But I think if I wait a few more years GM should come out with some screaming v-6 I HOPE!.

I need a daily driver that can fit 4 kids & 2 adults so I need Bench seat.

i did not to go that route, but if the dealer tried to shaft me i would not do it. I talked to him before and he new about GN's and was pretty cool.

For what it is worth I had my GN for three years, towards the end I was hardly driving it and it was sitting around. I now have two kids and just couldn't see it sitting in harms way all the time. I had purchased a 97.5 Regal GS last summer and couldn't be happier. It has around 80,000 miles on and runs really well. The usual brakes, tires, and simple mods are all that I have done so far. I would agree with trying to sell the GN as I think that trading in and buying from a dealer allows them to get you twice. Just my 2 cents. Good luck with whatever you decide, make sure the climate control display works or have them take some money off for it. RegalGS.org has a repair for the climate control display and alot of other good info and people.

If you don't need the extra doors, don't get rid of it. Find the problem and fix it once and for all. The Gn's are something special, the Regals are everyday cars.

I too have been pondering selling off the ttype and getting a 98 or 99 GS for daily duty........for now it will have to wait, but Ive been lookin around. Who knows, gotta find the *right* one before I do anything.

You guys had me confused for a minute. I thought your were talking about the cool GS`s[v8 powered]not the newer ones. Yes thet are nice, but getting rid of a GN for one....NO:confused:

The problem

The problem you may be referring to could be the lockup switch in the transmission. When mine was acting up it would be hot, and when starting from a dead stop it wouldnt shift to 2nd unless i somewhat let off the gas. This part isnt too expensive and not a big deal to change for a tranny shop.

yeah the new GS's are nice for everyday driving with a family...but man they are no GN that's for sure...a bone factory stock GN whoops a bone stock GS...my GN has parts that seem to go out every week...in fact in the last month i have had to replace the alternator, battery, driveshaft, ujoints, and a few other minor things...about a year ago my coil packs, maf sensor, and o2 and iac sensors went bad...

now i think my rear wheel bearings are going bad...

you just have to expect that with a 16 year old car...if you can't afford to fix it is one thing...but if you are just tired of fixing things then don't just get rid of it...these cars are just way too special IMO...

Re: The problem

Hey, could you give me some more info on this?
thanks

Lockup switch

Ya there is some little device in the transmission I guess that has to do with the shifting or locking up the TC. When it was acting up it also would jump right from first to 3rd gear, or thats what it felt like. Not really sure what to tell you about it just that it is probably around $75 us and the cost to take the tranny cover off etc.

If you do a quick search for lockup switch or lockup solenoid you may find some more information.

.............

thanks guys,
If you guys have anymore info that can help me, I would greatly appreciate it. Also, will it be safe to drive the car from Biloxi, Ms. to Warner Robins Ga. with the TC not locking up?
Thanks
Charles

Hey guys, I decided to do a search on lockup, and i got back some info on a guy who was selling a thumbwheel chip. Well anyways, he had posted the different settings that 1-3 nonlockup and 4-7lockup. It was more to it than that, but I noticed that, and i went outside and set mine to 4 and it shifted a WHOLE lot better, it shifted under half throttle with boost. I dont know if that fixed the problem 100% but it is doing a lot better. If you guys have any suggestions please let me know? Also would getting a switch be better than having the chip?
