While cleaning this afternoon I notice 2 vacuum style nipples on and near the bottom of throttle body. These have nothing connected to them. Should they? What are they for?

What was the purpose. Cold weather/freeze protection?

Where would they connect? I'm gonna guess the odd looped hose I have between the coolant lines on p/s. If so what have you guys used other than a kinked heater hose? Something a little cleaner looking perhaps. Thank you, Joe

Just my .02 on those cooling hoses running to the throttle body.

I have never disconnected them on any of the 6 turbo regals that i have owned since 87. I have lived and driven them in Fla,SC,Oh. for most of the time and they never caused any problems being hooked up. I really don't think you will gain anything by not having them connected unless maybe if you have an all out race car that only gets run on the track.

The two coolant lines supplement the emission controls; they "pre-heat" the throttle body chamber when the engine is up to temperature. The reason was, heating the inlet air will keep hydrocarbons stable in closed-loop. In practice, though, I'm not sure if they really make a difference. Most GN owners have capped the pre-heat lines off. This was a popular thing to do back when the 160 degree thermostat mod was started.

The engine runs the same with or without that change as far as I can tell.
