Is there a difference in 3.8 covers
109 block or are they all the same?
Thanks for any info

As far as I know, they're the same. I'm pretty sure that they're interchangeable with the 350s and a bunch of other Buick motors, too.

No, there are 3 different ones that will work on our cars. They all have a removable timing tab.

The early 14 bolt covers are flat nosed on the pan gasket surface and have (2) 5/16" holes in it that matches the 12 pan bolts. The later castings have a pointed nose with (3) 1/4" threaded holes arranged in a triangle that do not match the pan bolts.

The even later GM replacement units when they were available were pointed and double drilled with both patterns. You can also drill a 14 bolt pattern on a 20 bolt cover IF YOU'RE GOOD with a drill motor.

All of those would have a crank seal that installs from the rear.

If the seal goes in from the front it's a non GM Chinese part.
