So I finally found out what my car needs, a timing gear cover, gasket, and chain. Buckys (a local specialists shop) said that I could supply my own parts for a cheaper price. I am looking for something cheap, reliable, in the mild performance category, and is well know among other turbo buick people IE you guys that respond to this post. i was looking at the Cloyes system or the Edelbrock system even though i am skeptical about the edelbrock systems.

I would use the cover you have now, and do Earl Brown Mods.... or buy one of his covers if in doubt. just because there is nuthing wrong with having a well setup oiling system, even in a stocker.

Edelbrock timing chain would be just fine. Rollmasters, Comp or Cloyes all make a great chain.

and just go to Vato-zone and get a timing cover gasket set.

good to go.

weber ported and blueprinted front cover

rollmaster made in austrailia i believe good product

double check the Weber cover. 14 vs 20 bolt oil pans make a difference in timing covers.

I agree with Aj on the timing cover mods outlined by Earl. If your cover is good do the work yourself. Earl also tells you how to inspect the cover to make sure it's a good one. Don't just get an off the shelf after market one, they're crap. TA and Weber make nice ones but if you're going to pay the money get one from Earl and you'll be very happy with it.

I should have added that the one i have on the car is shot has a huge hole in it.Previous owner filled it up with more water than coolant. Buckys told me that it would probably be a $1800 fix

Earl Brown?

Who is Earl Brown, and where can I buy his Parts???

My first response has a link to his thread. You'll have to join another board to contact him.

no tools

Yeah I looked at Earls method and it looks good... but i have no tools, most of the stuff i do is at school and school is not in session for another week unless i buy performance replacement parts.

Earl charges about $400 for a complete ready to go cover and it's a real GM cover, not a chineese knock off. If you want just the cover to do the mods yourself it's $300. He's not making a profit off of them, he's just getting what it cost him when he bought them before they went out of service.

one last question... i was told that i should replace the harmonic balancer as well and perhaps a new camshaft as well. my engine is all stock as far as my knowledge goes execpt for the POS edelbrock vacuum carb. I'm not a mechanic and just know the basics of engines and some major parts u guys have really been helpin me out if i drank beer (but im not even old enough) i would give everyone a beer. (im a cognac person:biggrin:)
