Tips on insulating your house

Hey Sam, why did you move? You must have less garage space now than you had before. Did you remove the "& Son" from your business name? I'm sure you know the builder who built all of these Parkland Ridge houses. I can't complain too much, although the kitchen cabinets are dog ass ugly (no offense Rudy). I was down in the crawl yesterday admiring your gas line work. I wondered if closing the vents would matter much. Walls in crawl are sprayed with some kind of foam stuff and ducts are insulated with fiber board or something similar. Hot water pipes are wrapped too. The blower door worked real good- it magnified the air leaks in a crude sort of way. I've used the 3M plastic but it seemed kind of thin to me. Nothing like a nice 1" thick piece of styrofoam. I'll get up in the attic tomorrow and see what's going on up there. I think the last owner said he added insulation and it has plenty now. You're right-if only I can cure myself of this TR illness I could live like a king. I'm trying to sell my old house after the fire- that will bring in some $ but I'll probably waste it on my cars anyway.:biggrin:

The 3M stuff is thin but the idea is an air barrier. It doesn't have to be thick.

Your ductwork isn't insulated, its built out of ductboard, which has a high R value. Just never let it get wet.

The reason I didn't mention insulating the floor is that with these houses anyway it can allow the crawlspace to get too cold and possibly freeze pipes. If you insulate all the piping you could do the floor I suppose.

I do have a smaller garage now, it sucks, but the old house was too small. I still have a 2 car, but with the Z and the Viper its getting crowded. Its workable though....

I bought some 4mil plastic and double sticky tape from Menards today. The plexiglass was too expensive. I'll see how this works. Sam- did you trade the vette for the Viper? I'd like to see it sometime. Spent the whole day trying to eliminate the ground loop/alternator whine on the GN. Didn't have any luck. Now my bright head lights are coming on, kind of dim, without the brites lever pushed. I suspect it has something to do with the loose tilt steering wheel. Will try to fix it tomorrow. Could use your help if you're available.

Yeah, I traded the vette in on the Viper. The vette was kinda boring.

I'll see if I can get a sitter tomorrow for the kid, if so I might be able to stop by. I'm not the greatest with automotive electrical though.
