yeah Carfax is a tool only a tool, don't take their word as gospel. I just bought a car with 33.5k miles from the original owner and car fax had no records of mileage until 2001 and they showed 67,000 miles on it and of course carfax says they have "their sources" but I know they are wrong.

The previous owner kept every receipt since he had the car (he even kept fuel logs) and went to the illinois smog check place near his house and had the records pulled. Sure enough every year you saw a clear progression in miles and then one year 67,000 the next year then showed 30,000 or something like that.

These cars can be somewhat of a crap shoot but drive a few of them and in most cases you will know the difference right away. So far 2 other "gn guys" from this board have driven my car and gave it huge compliments on how well it rides. I had no previous history with these cars so I had no frame of reference. When I met the previous owner I actually tried to figure him out before the car because that is a very good indication of the kind of car I was getting into. The previous owner was very meticulous and organized I figured his car would be too.

Take a look at the car, get some pics, try to get someone who has some experience with these cars go with you and most of all DON'T RUSH INTO ANYTHING! Take your time, think it over, go with your gut feeling and make sure you are happy with the car.

Here is my two cents worth on these cars.
Mileage does not equal care.
PERIOD
I bought a legitimate low milieage 86 GN
Carfax records showed it, title showed it etc.
This car sat. from a reluctant widow who could just not bear to sell the husbands car. (uh huh heard that before)

Blackoutdrunk is right.

"Take your time, think it over, go with your gut feeling and make sure you are happy with the car."

It is going to have absolutly guaranteed quirks, and things wrong that will need to be fixed.
If you dont have the stomach for pulling your hear out buy something else.
But I will say these cars command a whole bunch of respect, and you are buying a car that is doing nothing but increasing in value.

RE-From my view

Have 2 cars at opposite ends. One is 1987 GN. when I bought it had 2,105
Org mi. Took conpression test.look at door sills. Also I have all papers when car was bought new.Paint and spacing of door and hood lines are the even.
My prefernce are documents.spent 2 years to find one that all matched.

My Limited the other end. Was bougth new at a dealership in city I started
life in.This 8 years ago. High milage car I waited years for. Why, was in my neighborhood I looked when ever I could. And the woman kept all papers when bought new.It is white with blue interior. What I liked was nothing was hidden.

I was looking for driver and race.At the last thing. motor now. Have replaced all bushing, shocks sway bars. stripped car down to metal. I painted it in buddies shop. only. found one area. under bottom of stainless metal small hole.
