I have a gn but run gta wheels and I am in need of rear tires. I hardly ever drive on the street and rarely even drive to the track 10 miles away but I race every weekend & need some real stickey tires. I bought some 28 x 12.50 x 16 ET streets the first part of the year but I have come to the conclusion that they are junk. They still have half tread & I 60ft high 1.60's with them. I am looking at hoosier 28 x 10 x 16 or maybe even the ET street radials but they seem short at 26 inches. Anyone have any suggestions.

I dont know why you think 1.60 60' is bad but my new rear tires are going to be the Mickey Thompsan drag radial. They last about 3000 miles when racing and they can pull good 60's. They come in 255/50/16.

A 1.60 60ft is not that bad but the last time I ran the ET streets I got a 1.68, 1.68 & 1.70. I then put on a set of 28 x 9 x 15 ET drags and ran 1.58-1.60 the rest of the night.

I dont think the tires are the problem but maybe something else with the car or setup, maybe track prep - I've gone 1.47 on 26x11.5x16 ET Streets. I've run the Hoosier 28x10x16 slicks and currently run the 28x11.5x16 Quick Time Pro's(same actual size as the 28x10x16 slicks)and have been 1.49 on both. The height of the ET Street radial has kept me away from them, though I did speak to them and they were considering a 28" tall radial for 16" rims but havent heard anything scince.

Steve, what gearing do you run?

Makes a difference..

My car wont pull on 28 inch tall tires.. tried this early June.. lost 3-4 MPH. MPH came back after I went to the 26 inch tall tire. Same boost, same air fuel, etc..

I tried the 28x10x16 ET streets.. then put the 26 inch tall DR's back on.. instant MPH gain.

I run 3.25 gears

I run 3.42's in a 12 Bolt. I wanted to stay with something in the 3.23-3.27 range(like your 3.25)but couldnt find anything for the 12 bolt.

Maybe my setup is borderline but I can say that the ET streets have gotten worse. When I first got them I could get a 1.59-1.60 60ft, but the last time I ran them they went 1.70, 1.68, 1.68. My next run I used some 28 x 9 et drags half an hour later & went 1.59. The car proceeded to go 1.58-1.60 for the next five runs. The next week I started with the 28 x 9's and was 60 footing 1.63-1.64 for three passes (track was slick) I then changed to my 9 year old 26 x 10 et drags & went a 1.60 & a 1.56. From what I can find these two slicks are both a softer compound & maybe thats it?

They make 3.23's for the 12 bolt.. but having the 3.42's allows the larger tire.

I was thinking of stepping mine up to 3.50's so I could play with the 28 inch tall tire. Although i'm having second thought how the rear of the car looks with the taller tires.. I cant win..

What i'd give for a set of 26x10 16's ;)

On the subject, what other mods to suspension have you done?

I recently took my random tech adj arm off.. going with a stocker and see how it works.. and added a set of BMR lowers..

When I was redoing the rear I couldnt find 3.23's but not complaining, the 3.42's have worked out well.

As for suspension, I have Hotchkis lowers, panhard rod, and Jegster torque arm(all non adjustable). Some people dont like the Jegster saying it's too short but it works for me and a guy I know in PA runs one in his 87 T/A, a pumpgas EFI 406 w/125 shot runs 10.09 @ 132 w/1.38 60ft(10.89 @ 125 w/1.42 on motor). Then again I know alot of cars that work well with the stocker, here's a pic of one with a stock arms and a wolf bar http://members.cox.net/10.90streetcar/famasofall.jpg The rest of my setup is stock springs, stock sway bar, and Lakewood shocks. Front is all back to stock except for Lakewood struts.

I got a question I'm gonna pm ya if you dont mind :)
