Hey guys Im going to rebuilt my 2004R and I wanted to know what "special tools" are needed to rebuild this tranny if any. I read through the CK performance trans book and I saw it mention a lot of special tools needed but just like at our shop, a lot of special tools are "required" but not mandatory to do the job. So wanted to check with the experts to see which special tools I should get before I start tearing it apart, and if you guys know where I could get them. Thanks!

A few off the top of my head are:
press (for compressing clutchpacks to get snap rings out)
pump alignment tool (made from a couple of large ordinary band clamps)
lip seal tool (made from some copper or steel tube with a loop of mig wire, or similar, squeeze clamped in one end)
snap ring pliers
low/rev housing tool (a real tool here is recommended not just some large L wires)
A stand or tool which allows you to set the output shaft depth when assembling (I made a stand using a driveshaft end with a hole drilled through and some threaded rod to set the depth. The drive shaft end was welded to a small stand to support the trans. Pretty crude but worked well)

Those are the only ones that come to mind right now. I'm sure others will offer some more suggestions.
