just out of curiousity what is the top speed of my GN its an 87

I was driving around and at about 60MPH I was at around 3000RPMS that seemed very high to me and even though I know my GN can accelerate very fast it seems like it has no top end at all

thanks

Carl

3000 rpm..

That's a little high. Was that in O/D?..I know my father's GN cruise @ 65mph at around 2500-2700.Could be your factory tach is off.Do you have a seperate tachometer other than the one on the dash? The factory one on my car was way off about 2000 rpm. Can't really go by the stock tach. What converter do you have?...too loose.........HTH

everything is stock
trans
converter
tach
I dont think the converter could be slipping, it only has like 59K miles
but you never know

Sorry, what I meant by the converter being too loose was a higher stall speed.Try looking at your rpm's off a scantool while cruising.I had the same problem with my factory tach.It was off 2000 rpm's:eek: .

Top speed limiter in the factory chip is 125 mph (cause of the crappy low speed rated tires they came with). Most performance chips move that up to 160-200 mph. Rev limiter is set at 5,600 rpm. Factory stock car running well can hit the top speed limiter no problem.

with converter locked i was turning 5500 rpm in drive at 127 mph with 27" tires and still had a gear to go but that was what it went thru the traps at.
