Well i finnaly got the motor out of the car and tore it down so i could build the new one :) . Some interesting things that were noted in the tear down process
1. drivers side head gasket blown in middle cylinder.
2. Who ever owned this car before me loved making there own gaskets
3. and they loved locktite
4. one of the pistons has 3 gouge marks in the top near the lip.
Does any one know what would cause this? no other pistons are touched they are dirty from 98k miles but no marks just that one. Everything inside the motor looked good except for that one piston. So hopefully i will be posting about me driving the car soon. Harry

1. Been there!
2. Been guilty of that! (hopefully they didn't make there own HG's!)
3. Good stuff, when used in the right places!
4. Email or post pics of the damage. Might have had a broken timing chain in the past, or grenaded a turbo and damaged the piston. If it is not too severe, smooth it and reuse it! If money is no object and you go forged, buy me a set too!

Gouges in piston are more than likely caused by a detonated spark plug that came apart, probably from ground strap. Any chance the damaged piston was on either cylinder of the blown head gasket?

nope it was the rear passengers side cylinder the hg was blown on the drivers middle. And yes i am going forged and way over stock (if i can). I have pics that i will get put up soon. Harry

Sorry to hear about your bad luck. Post pics and keep us in the loop what you decide to do. Good reason to upgrade, I guess, huh!?

Don't go any larger on the bore than you have to, the extra 3 or 4 cubes isn't worth the durability the cylinder wall thickness provides.
