pulled the trans back tonight to install 10" ptc lockup converter. Thought I felt the converter drop in but after I put the trans back up and got some bolts started I noticed the converter is very close to the flywheel. The stock one seemed to have around 1/4 of an inch or so of space. Is the converter still not seated? I moved it around a bit while pushing on it trying to get it to drop further and can't.

A gap upto 3/8ths is accepable, but no gap may put too much undue pressure against the crank assembly. 1/8th" should be min. if memory serves me right.

You want to make sure that it is seated enough that the face of the converter is deeper than the end of the transmission case. If the converter is touching the flexplate as you tighten the bolts of the trans case you will break the pump. Keep spinning the converter as you push on it to seat the converter snout into the pump drive. My 9.5 PTC took awhile to get fully seated.

There should be 1/8 to 3/16 clearance between the flexplate and converter if the converter is fully seated in the trans.

THought so, thanks. Chances are I'm not going to be able to get it to drop in with the trans in and I'm going to have to pull it out and tip the trans up and spin the converter til it drops. Had to do this with the stock converter also. At least I didn't put the whole thing back together:rolleyes:

got around a 1/8th inch, maybe a bit more. We pulled the trans back out and double checked to make sure.

As long as you have some clearance, you'll be OK. I've had even less than 1/8" on some installations and its fine. As long as you can turn the converter without it touching the flexplate, you're in far enough. No need to pull the trans again.
