I have a 87 GN and want to upgrade the torque converter. My GN has a TA49 turbo, 43 lb injectors, stock intercooler with duttweler neck, upgraded fuel pump, adjustable fuel regulator, and stock down pipe. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

the right converter makes a huge difference, i know it cost a bit but i tell ya
after they got finished installing my art-carr 9inch non lock-up ( 3200 stall)
my car was responding like if i was hitting it with nos  , it makes a DAY AND NIGHT difference, and you'll love it, TRUST ME.

I've got the exact same converter (Art Carr 9 in. non-lockup) in my GN. It *does* work great with my TE44, but it kills the gas mileage. Since I drive mine on the street 95% of the time, I'd really like to swap it for a lower stall, lock-up converter.

Unfortunatly, I won't have the time to do a converter swap for at least another month or two, otherwise I'd offer it up for sale or trade on here.

You need to consider how you plan to drive the car when selecting a torque converter. If the car is mostly street driven, you will probably want to stick with a lock-up converter and possibly a lower stall. My only other suggestion is stick with a reputable turbo Buick vendor. Do a search on here and you'll find several. In fact, you might want to give a vendor a call and let them help you make a selection.

I had an AC 9" in mine at one time with a 44. It was like a light switch but ate up too much mph up top. Id go with a PTC 10" LU for sub 11 second performance. Cheaper and will work better than the AC and still has the LU. If going faster than 11.00 at 3600lbs id spring for the bad a$$ 9.5" PTC NL with custom billet stator.

Ditto! The PTC 10" will be fine for your combo. PM Dusty Bradford, he'll set you up.

D phillips,I have recently become a stocking distributor of the PTC brand converters. They have a great reputation for performance and durability.I am strictly dealing with the 2004r lockup units they manufacture, and would be happy to set you up with a converter for your set up.A true 2800 stall will definately compliment your upgrades giving great turbo spool up,and will glue you to the seat on the launch.Feel free to contact me if you need some assistance.
