I Am Looking To Buy A New Converoer. I Want A 2800 To 3200 Stall. It Needs To Be A Lockup. Any Reccomendations.

L/u torque converter

I have a 12" 3200 stall "pats" lock/up t/c that I put in my 87 GN about 1K miles ago. Works perfect I am upgrading to a 10" "pats" along with a complete engine overhaul. Let me know if you are interested.

No offense, but dont buy a 12" unless you are getting a STEAL.

Full Throttle has a Pats 10" 3200 LU for around $500

Or you can get a Precision 9.5" 3200 LU for $730 from Jimmys.... GREAT warranty on these...

ummmmmm... and how do you know a 12" converter doesn't work  we only ran mid/low 11s for years with a stock D5 .. many have gone 10's with restalled D5's

Did I say it didnt work, I dont see that in my quote???
I just meant why buy a 12" if you can get a 10" for a couple hundred bucks more and get better performance out of it. You cant tell me that less rotating mass isnt going to help out...

I beleive in spending money on something ONCE, not a hundred times... thats just me.

I wonder how many tenths you would have picked up had you spent the money on a 10 or 9.5" converter on those cars...

200 to $500 is a big difference to most  these cars were faster than most around here with all sorts of "stuff" in them .. this is funny from a guy like you crying about prices being out of your "budget"

A guy like me? You dont know me... so dont pretend.

And that was a nice way of saying you are out of your mind in your asking price, so forget it. I paid half the amount the next day.

And some parts are WORTH the extra money, and some just hold radiators down, so a hunk of metal is a hunk of metal..

Congrats, you are the first person on these boards that I have found NOT to be a nice, helpful person. You obviously use it to make money on over priced junk parts.

Im done writing in this thread so fire away, i wont pay any attention

Sorry to the guy whos thread this is... its gotten way off track, but I dont like being attacked by other members... thats twice now...

I wish you luck no matter what you decide to do. As "crabby old bastard" has said you can get a restalled stocker if you like, or you can spend a couple hundred more and get something with less rotating mass.

nope don't know you .. don't really care ..

back on topic

how fast you looking to run ??? It's really easy to turn the car into a $$$ pit

I HAVE BEEN RUNNING 12.20s WITH THE STOCK CONVERTER. BEST 60 FT TIME SO FAR IS 1.98. WOULD LIKE TO DROP THE 60 TO 1.80.

I have had a 12" restalled and it was ok with a 49. I like the 9.5" or 10" if you can swing the extra cash. But it depends on what turbo you get too. A 44/49/GT32 is fine with a restalled 12 inch. But will spool a lot faster on the street with a 10" or 9.5". As far as track times I would say a 44/49/32 will be close with a restalled 12" or 10". Biggest thing at the track is making boost at the line. I have a 10" 2800 Neal Chane with a GT32 and it makes boost as soon as you touch the gas.

Also Do I Need One With The Anti Ballooning Plate. I Will Not Be Using Nitrous Or A Transbrake. I Dont Want To Go Cheap But I Also Dont Want To Spend More Than I Need.

If it was me, I'd get a 10" Pats or Neal Chance. Both are around $500. That will give you some room to grow too if you end up getting a bigger turbo. I think these converters are a good medium between the Vigilante and restalled 12". I'd probably go with a 3000 stall to give you a little room to grow just in case. Let us know what you decide.

Let me know how this works for you, I think I'm right behind you with the same purchase:smile:
