I know there could be several variables involved in a comparison, but I have a general question. I would like to know the possible reasons why my Red car with a rebuilt transmission does not shift nearly as firm as a stock transmission in my GN.
I am new to a modified car, and think maybe the converter and cam make my Red car "feel" different in the shift points also. Both cars have the hard shift kit that Bruce sells. Info on cars is:
GN--stock tranny with shift kit, 82k mile, always scratches the 1-2 shift at even part throttle, very firm to hard shifts
Red car--roller cam, AC 9" n/l (3500-4000 stall, I think), not as firm 1-2 shift but not too bad, soft 2-3 shift at 5200, a little firmer manual 2-3 shift at 5600. I did adjust the TV cable back nearly all the way without a lot of improvement.
And I don't know too much about trannys besides installing the shift kit in the GN, but on the Red cars rebuild, one of the teflon rings flattened, and it was replaced with a steel ring. The car seems to shift better with that addition now, but not near as firm as my GN
. I just read a thread that stated teflon rings on the center support are questionable. Any opinions on improving the shifts appreciated.
The car will be in the trans shop this week for an inspection of anything in the pan and maybe pull the tranny to inspect the support rings (and yes, it is a reputable TR knowledgeable trans shop, no concerns there).
