Ok at renolds I made 2 passes on friday night then parked the car till saturday. Went to pull out saturday and it wouldn't hadly move, in OD it would just make the tires shake but not move. Looked under it and thought I had a broke tranny mount which I did so I just loaded it up for the day and watched. Today I went to the shop and changed out the mount. I unhooked the tranny linkage to shift it by hand to be sure all is well and it is NOT. Have park, now I have no reverse and the motor acts like it is in park and reverse at the same time. Motor strains but no movement, put it in neutral and its in drive WTF!!!!!!!. Now it goes good in drive but no reverse. I shifted it by hand under the car and it sounds like marbles in the tranny. GOOD GOD what now!!!!!! Any ideas thanks all Daniel Ray

not ready to give up yet guys! I went to the shop a min ago and you and get it in park barely. If you go to reverse the tires will turn forward a hair then lock up like its in reverse and park at the same time. If you go on down then it will go into drive and runs thur all the gears shifting hard like its suppose to. It acts like the linkage inside the tranny is not shifting the valve body right and its barely in reverse then the parking awl is catching again but the tires turn forward , not backwards. Very weird!! When it did this at renolds I had reverse just fine but in od the tires would jerk, pull it down to regular drive and all worked just fine. grrrrrrr. Now no reverse but seems like all else is fine. Goes thur all the gears just fine forward including od from what I can see. I ran it up to 65 on the speedo and it was at about 2200 or so , so it seems like its all the way in od. Just no reverse. Going to drop the pan in a few and see if the linkage inside looks ok. Any ideas otherwise would be a great help. Daniel Ray

also don't want to go to the 400, hate to give up my gas milage with OD. I drive her to work every now and then and its 43 miles one way. Daniel

Mine did something similar twice since I've owned it. The first time, about 5 years ago, I never really got a good explanation from the trans guy. I had a local guy rebuild it twice and he never fixed it. I cut my losses and went with a Level10 transmission.

It happened again this past spring. I had been driving it without any trouble. Got in it one morning and the transmission seemed like it was fighting itself. Had to give it A LOT of gas to get it to go backwards, and even forward it was working very hard to get moving. I took it to CK and he said something had seized internally. I forget what it was, but basically the trans was always in a forward gear. The fluid looked good but when he got it apart it was toast. I put a rebuilt CK trans in the car and it's been great.

Long story short - I'm 99.9% sure you're looking at a total rebuild.

Sounds like a sprag problem to me. Pull it out

talked to lonnie and he said that the forward clutches were welded. Thats why I only have forward gears and no reverse. He said it happens sometimes from hard footbrake lauches and it get the clutches to hot. grrrrrrrrrr man it just never ends on these cars. Going to the shop today and see what I can get rid of to raise a little extra cash lol. Daniel Ray

Yep. That's what happened to my car, but I didn't realize it was footbrake launches that were doing it. Does that mean a transbrake is better? I thought they were tough on the trans, too.

the forward clutch durability in my opinion is not any worst between a transbrake or footbraked car as long as the trans cooler is working.althouth the transmission gets hotter during staging the clutches are already applicated and the loss of apply pressure, lube oil or a bad cooler are 3 things that cause these eggs to fry.
