was home for the weekend, took some press. readings on my trans. Has Chris' shift kit in an otherwise stock OZ 200-4R. Trans shifts a bit hard at light throttle, gets mushy as you get on it more...

here's the readings I got:
min TV max TV
P 85 220
R 135 180
N 85 220
4 85 210
3 85 190
2 190 190
1 180 175

On the road... at 1/4 throttle, the trans was moving about 120 psi, at 1/2 throttle the press was about 150 psi and dropped 5 psi on the shifts, at 3/4 throttle pressure was about 160 psi and dropped 10-15 psi on shifts, at full throttle, the pressure was 150 psi through 1st gear (went down? we triple checked that) and pressure dropped about 15 psi on the shift... the 2-3 shift at full throttle was at about 130 psi.

so... let me know what you guys think of these readings... the trans also bangs like a mofo at random times when getting shifted from P to D or from Rev to D. Rear end and u-joints are in great shape, as well as the trans mount. I didn't see any crazy pressure spikes when shifting between those gears. any ideas? I am

Thanks!

looks like you mis assembled the reverse boost valve in the pump.give it a look.

define mis-assembled... backwards?

my special talent for doing one thing wrong on every project strikes again, lol.

hmmm.... I swear I put that in the correct way, remember double checking that :frown:

possible that it is stuck from the vaseline that was used during assembly...

I'll have to check next time I am home. This can be done without dropping the valve body, right?

also, Chris, if you don't mind, could you explain why you think it is the rev boost valve from the pressure readings?

Hope its not too much of a pain for you... I am just trying to learn from my own stupidity. I tried to figure it out looking in the manual and was having a hard time figuring it out from there.

Thank you, I appreciate the help :)

Ok, I brought this thread back up to the top... I saw Chris is back posting, so I dug it out

I pulled the transmission pan off and dropped the valve body on my Thanksgiving break from school, and found out that I had installed the reverse boost valve the correct way in the trans :frown: I was really hoping that I had it in backwards and it would fix my problems... but it appears not to be.

I drove it and none of the characteristics of the trans have changed from my symptoms above in the first post (which would have been obvious before I went for a ride since I changed nothing in the trans). I didn't take pressure readings again (snow started falling and the car got put away), but I would assume they are no different since nothing got changed.

While it was apart, I double checked all my shift kit work in the trans, and everything seemed to be correct from what I read in the CK manual.

Any more ideas? I am definitely stuck.

This is strange. The reverse boost valve has a straight shot to the manual valve, no other valves or check balls in the way.

?

Are you sure you are talking about the same valve?
The reverse boost valve is in the pump, not the valve body.
You said you dropped the vb to check the reverse boost valve.

I checked the reverse boost valve in the pump... that was what was suspected of causing the problem...

sorry if I was unclear... Thanks for the help so far :)

Luke, I reread your 1st post & it looks to be a similar deal I had.

1-Fluid level full or slightly over full

2-Make sure the filter is sealed in the pump & that the clip on the VB is pushing the filter to the bottom of the pan.

3-In my case I think the pump slide spring was too weak causing a press. loss above 4-4500 rpm.

ttt

fluid is full (and had tried it a bit overfull as well), double checked to make sure the filter sealed tight and it seems to be in the right spot. Anyone else suspect a pump slide spring?

other input?
