I've been reading about upgrading the stock MAP. Translator was mentioned and I found three variants:

MAF translator for LS1/Lt1
MAF translator pro
MAF translator gen 2

The pro and gen 2 appear to enable the user to edit some data. The translator does not. Do I need the standard translator before I can use the pro or gen 2? Or is each translator a stand alone component with different bells and whistles?

Do I need a specific vendors chip and/or software for the translator??

Would I tune with the pro or gen 2 along with the data that the power logger provides or are the power logger and translator two seperate tuning tools??

If the power logger and translator pro/gen 2 are two different tuning tools, which is preferred in the TB community?

I'm new to the scene and I am being a sponge on the board. I want to do it right the first time. Thanks in advance.

Each of the units will work as a translator for a MAF Upgrade. The GEN II and TransPro have tuning feature within. Now you can your A Turbo Tweak chip with all three of the translators, but to get the full functionality of the Gen II and TransPro...... You will need a Extender Extreme chip (Bob Bailey).

Answered in the above comment.

You would tune the GEN II and TransPro from what your log reads from your PL.

They are both used by several people in the turbo community. If is just personal preference.

Any more question, please do ask. It is the only way that you will learn.

p.s. I sent you a PM

Thanks for the response Clint. I do have a myriad of questions for you and as well as the other gurus:

Can I tune a TT chip with just the Power Logger?
Can I tune a TT chip with just the translator and scanmaster, sans powerlogger?
Can I tune a Bob Bailey chip with just the Power Logger and no translator?
Can I tune a Bob Bailey chip with just the translator and scanmaster?
With a translator pro or gen II, I understand I can tune a TT chip, correct?
Bob Bailey's chip is recommended to take full advantage of the translators, correct?
If I have a translator pro/gen II and a Power Logger, is that an unnecessary redundant tuning system?

Again, thanks for your guidance. More questions to come.

Thanks for the response Clint. I do have a myriad of questions for you and as well as the other gurus:

Yes you can tune the TT chip with the powerlogger.... Also you can still tune TT chip through the chip

Can I tune a TT chip with just the translator and scanmaster, sans powerlogger?
NO. You need a Extender Chip

Can I tune a Bob Bailey chip with just the Power Logger and no translator?
Yes you can, but if you update to an after market MAF..... You will need to have the translator.

Can I tune a Bob Bailey chip with just the translator and scanmaster?
Scanmaster is a scan tool only. Bob Bailey is the maker of the GEN II and TransPro. His chips are designed to be tuned with his tools.

With a translator pro or gen II, I understand I can tune a TT chip, correct?
No. You can only tune the Extender Chips.

Bob Bailey's chip is recommended to take full advantage of the translators, correct?
You got it...

If I have a translator pro/gen II and a Power Logger, is that an unnecessary redundant tuning system?
NO..... The PL is a logger only. Not a tuner.... But you can change some of the chip setting in PL. The translators allow you to make certain fuel and timing adjustment at certain RPMs.....

Again, thanks for your guidance. More questions to come.

Very concise response, thank you. I'm learning, slowly but surely. If I decide to run a TT chip, which MAF should I have?

That is personal preference. No re-read all the responses. Cause the answer is there to a lit of your questions. Study study study

Sent from my iPhone using Turbo Buick

you could also get a trans pro and run speed density with no MAF sensor.or even get a TT SD chip with a power logger and run no MAF sensor.

Wow guys I'm a rookie to this tuning world but I am open to any tips on tuning as well extranjeo covered a whole lot of questions that I have been wondering about as well

The best set up IMO is the translator and LS1 sensor with an Extender chip. It will allow boost to be raised without the need to add fuel to the chip. This is the best for someone learning. I have run both TT and Extender chips. both work, both have great features.
