transmission gasket....RTV or not?

Gonna go change fluid today. Is it necessary to apply RTV where the gasket mates with the pan?

Did mine today at my mechanics shop.

No RTV he says and does.

Just the new gasket.

I've RTV'd and not RTV'd cork gaskets and never had a problem either way.
Now I use a rubber/cork gasket that I just tack to the pan. Works great!
