towards the bottom of this site DIY ALKY under "Next is a list of items I advise that you have if you plan to run an AI kit:", it says that "an ALDL based scantool can report knock by as much as 1.5 seconds after it's occurred."
is this true? i bought a scanmaster because i thought it was a reliable way to tune my car and especially watch for knock.

aldl reads 1.5 frames per second. That means in two seconds you get three bits of data.

If you want you can get 18 frames per second, get a direct scan.

And you can get chips with the fast update patch so the scanmaster reads faster. Like 3 frames per second..i'm not sure on this specific.

Plenty of cars tuned into the 10's with just a scanmaster.. actually the fastest 109 block car in the country uses a scanmaster.

Quit worry'ing ;) start small, work your way up. If you get knock, the scanmaster will show it.. always does.

i was just confused about how the website said my car will be knocking and i wont know until almost 2 seconds later.

A little correction. An ALDL based scan tool reads/spits out data at 1.5 seconds per frame. NOT 1.5 frames per second.

If you can get a chip with the fast data update, then "some" of the data does spit out at almost 3 frames per second.
