Remember that mid nine second TSM car i was talking about last year..... ?

Today at norwalk dave bamford ran 9.816 @ 136.58 in full legal TSM trim.

He did it with a 1.42 60 foot and an 1/8 mile et of 6.248 and a mph of 110.76 !

Congrats dave. I cant belive that thing is a stock block. I also cant wait to see what it will run with the 70 gtq that will be legal next year.

Dammit!!! I guess I'm going to have to spend more money.
Congrats Dave.

Good job Dave. It is really a PT 71 GTQ. Wont be long and that car will be faster than your twin car.

Congrat's Dave !!!!!!!!!!!

Glad to see our rear swaybar & control arms are working for you! Now I will have to help a few others to keep up with you :)

If anyone has pics or video of Dave, send em in please. As big of files as possible, got the cable hookup.

I guess they had to turn people away from this test & tune, had too many interested. I had to miss it (unfortunately), had to keep the production going so I don't get yelled at

Thanks guys! I finally sorted out my front suspension issues, front morroso trick springs were too soft. The car leaves straight and stays straight thru the entire pass with the HR Parts sway bar.

Ran a 9. 83 on the first pass and backed it up with a 9.81 with a standard 70 turbo old style compressor cover.

I wonder if I am past the safe power levels of the 109 block in the eyes of the GSCA gurus making the rules for TSM ????

You must be cause you're getting very close to what those TSE boys are running and they have a 76 turbo as well as a Stage II motor.......

You keep it up Dave and you might piss of some of those "gurus"!;)

Dave,

You are the man!!!
Top Gun isn't Tom Cruise anymore!!!

The cold weather is a good thing. I think there is one more TSM race but I am done for the year.

It's time to pull the motor get it to Dan for freshenup and a survey of all the internal carnage. ;)

:) Congrats Dave!!! Nice Job!!

I knew you could do it...........just need to get back to those 1.38-1.39 sixties and that rascal would be in the 9.70's like we discussed.

P.S. You can't run in TSE.........your turbo is to small !!! and you would be disqualified.:D

Joe

top gun- Congrats thats excellent. If you don't mind, what are your mods?, your weight, and the boost level you used to run those times? I would do back flips all day with those numbers. Lastly who tuned it and what engine management are you using?:D

With the ported shroud version of the 70GTQ, he went 138+ during T&T at the Nationals.

Note that the additional power of the GTQ turbos comes from the wheels, not the housing...and the wheels are legal now! The ported shroud housing will be legal for the TSM point series next year, but, the GSCA outlawed these housings at their events. Accordingly, TSM racers cannot use the ported shroud version of the 70-GTQ at Bowling Green.

Dave,

Those are some awesome ET's and MPH you and some of the other TSM guys are running with the "109" block. Congrats!!!

Realistically & honestly though, how many passes are you guys that are running low 10's- high 9's with the "109" getting out of the motor before having to tear it down?

Scott & TSM rules committe,

With the current rules of this class and the ET/MPH to be competitive. How much $$$ would it take to build a car for this class? At what point does Turbo Street Modified turn into Turbo Race Modified?

That depends entirely on 1) Where you are now; and 2) How fast do you want to go? Anyone that meets the rules, can run in TSM (Note that the 11.99 E.T. time ONLY applies to racers registered in the point series to COLLECT points). As such, you can run a completely stock GN in TSM. You'll loose, but it would be TSM legal. So the only cost would be the car's cost.

Realisticly, to be competitive, you need a 10-second or faster car. There are so many possible combinations to get there, I won't even begin to speculate. Spending the money to be very competitive and to make the drivetrain last can easily push the limits of your wallet. I would bet the two fastest TSM racers (right now: Bamford-9.81 and Garcia-9.90) have spent more than the other TSM racers. ;)

Funny you say that. The GSCA's reasoning behind disallowing the ported shrouds (in every Turbo Heads Up class), is partially based on trying to stop uncontrolled spending. The TSM rules have been FINAL since last November/December. The fact that a new turbo came out that fits the TSM rules, is a new fact. I'm allowing the turbo, the GSCA is not. The GSCA Nationals is their race, not mine.

Scott,

Thanks for the info.

Another pressing question:

What is the deadline TA Performance
must make re: release of their aluminum
heads in order for the heads to be
eligible for TSM 2004?

And, what is the precise definition
and/or criteria for actual accomplishment of
"product release"?

TIA! :)

So you will allow the ported shrouds in other races than the GS nationals?

You must be talking about my wife! :D

We have a saying here among the local street racers. "You can race a person and their car, but you can't race money!"

If you can spool-up on a pro tree and cut a good light you've got a good chance of going a few rounds with a mid-10sec car.
