I'll be in the market again next spring. After 6 GN's I'm thinking of going to a TTA. What do you guys have to say about the TTA's? Pros/cons of the TTA?How are the Trans/rears? Do they come with a BFR Trans? Please voice your opinions! If I go with another Buick I'm going with a Turbo T. Which ever route I go I'll be looking for a low milage, show car quality and FAST!

give the TTA a try I have one and it's a welcome chage for awhile but not a replacement. better brakes and handeling nicer seats ... Just make sure you do the sub frame connectors and strut tower brake because they rattle more than a regal !! But with those items they are as queit as you can expect from a 15 yr old car.
Chicks definalty like the TA better ....queit don't want the wife to hear that ;)
Good luck

I had a GN for almost 13 years and sold it for my TTA which I really like. I still love the look of the GN/TR and will eventually have another down the road. However, the TTA's are all that I wished the TR's could have been as far as handling, braking, interior, areodynamics, and power are concerned. My only complaint is the semi-weak rear that was used on them. if you keep your 60' times above say 1.6's it should hold up for a while...they just won't take the abuse of the 8.5" rear the TR's have.

I love mine. Great road car. Very stable at high speeds. The car feels great at 50, or 150 mph.

The rears in them are just fine..I've seen em live in the 1.4 60' range. They're just expensive as hell to replace/upgrade certain parts.

There are a number of "refinements" in the TTA

I drove my 87 LTD to KC and sold it. Bought the TTA, and then drove it back home to Colorado. It was 98 degrees outside. At 75 mph, the temp guage never went over 180, with the A/C on (600 miles @ 25.3 mpg) :D And, the seats are a dream

The TTA design fixed the overheating, braking, guage cluster inadequacies, comfort issues, and some of the suspension issues, the TR lacked. And did it with 40 more RWHP :)

Yes, it does squeak groan more than any car I've owned, but, I'm hard of hearing anyway ;)

If FAST is a priority, look at the the TTA FAQ list for minimal mods and track times :D

I like my TTA, but can't give a truly subjective view since I have never owned a TR. The TTA's definately aren't "Family Cars" like the TR's are though.

Thanks for all your opinions. This will be a hard decision to make whenit's time! Keep it coming!

I like the TTA's but some info from a couple of friends...one was going to buy one the other's father owns one...the guy that was going to buy one said that the interior was too small/tight for him so if you're a big/tall guy it may not be the car for you...heard from the other friend that working on them(installing aftermarket parts) can be a real PITA compared to the TR's...I recall my friend commenting on replacing the fuel pump...he said that was an adventure...also the choice of some aftermarket parts for the TTA is limited and fitment of the available parts can be lacking...same is true for the TR's as far as fitment but there are more choices out there...I'm not knocking the TTA's...great cars but not for everyone...

Well you certainly can't go wrong with either car, but here is my opinion.

TTA Pros = More well rounded performance - more exclusive/historically significant. Better interior.

TTA Cons = Not much room - hard to get in and out of. Some parts are hard to come by. Good majority of them are modified and hacked up.

GN Pros = Black paint - mean looking, more roomy. Better parts availability. Can modify them without feeling guilty about hacking up an original car.

GN Cons = Not as unique as a TTA. Not a very capable handling or braking car. Stodgy dash and instruments.

I like them both. If you go for a TTA, don't just focus on mileage. focus on the previous owners and how they cared for the car. Make sure you get one with as many original parts as possible.

If you want to build a street/strip car I would buy a GN or Turbo T. There were only 1557 TTA's - why hack one all to pieces.

Good luck and enjoy!!

TTA

I've never owned one but i already have a GN and if i had the dough i'd buy a TTA then a 96 SS impala...then a merc marauder:cool:

I had a GN, bought a TTA, got bored with it, and bought another T. The T is more practical more comfortable. Plus chicks think the TA looks white trash

Drove TTA 120mph all the time, it purred
Wouldn't do that with a GN

No offense to anyone but who the **** would buy a car with a chick's opinion in mind? Sorry, but I don't buy a car thinking "Wow, the chicks suuuure would like that". If you need a car to attract chicks then there are other issues that need to be addressed ;):D:D

I am offended by that remark. The TTA really gives my mobile home some added curb appeal.

Honestly, who really cares what "chicks" think. If that's even a fraction of your decision to own a GN - you made a collasal mistake. You would have been more popular with the "chicks" in a lamo V6 Mustang convertible, or depending on the demograpics even a Civic.

I won't offend anyone by saying what my wife thinks of Regals. I love the GN and she does not get it. Oh well.

The TR and TTA are very different cars in every way, the only thing in common is the power plant and thats where any similarities end. The GN definity gets more attention when out on the town. No one hardly knows what a TTA is and doesn't get a second look until some idiot challenges you to a race and you kick their butt with hardly any noise coming out of the tail pipes :)
The ride the feel the steering the cornering are all different. The TTA handles and corners better than the 4th gens but you feel every pebble in the road also.
I'd say, if you're unsure, go find one that you can test drive or find someone in a local club that has one to further inspect. The one plus is the vacuum brakes.

I agree with the majority of opinion in this thread. But I am going to say what everyone is scared of hearing.

The cold truth about what other people think:

Chicks--

It doesn't matter which one you choose. You pull up in the Buick, they think that it is a grandma car. "Why is the exhaust humming so loud?" they will ask.

You pull up in the TTA, they want to tell you how a guy that they used to date or a girlfriend of their's had one. And they used to go to lunch in it and sh!t.

Both remarks will piss you off. The truth is, the only time the car gets respect, (and it will), is when you show her that the ass-end will try to outrun the front when you stand on it. She's holding on for dear life, and telling you that you're crazy.

Guys-

Pull up in the Buick....."Hey Dude, nice Monte Carlo!" (That is, by the way, followed by a punch in the face) You speed away.

Pull up in the TTA....."Is that GTA stock?" or "Why does that GTA have "Turbo" on it?"

The effing cool part is, whichever one you decide on, just do it right. Whether you keep a beautiful TTA stock or tweak-out a Buick, pick and choose your races wisely (stock TTA) and rule the streets where you live.

You will have every 16 yr. old nerd or 30 yr. old nerd, for that matter, wanting to ride in your car!

Just remember this.....

Once you make your presence felt.......the panties will fly.;)
