turbo 400 locking up in 3rd gear??

i just built a turbo 400 with a tci brake and reverse manual valvebody. and its has worked great for the past couple weeks and now when you shift it in to third its like the brake comes on. i know ive heard of this prob before but i cant remember what the cause is.

sprag is locked up or int. frictions welded together

i just pulled the unit out and tore it down, to find the snap ring that retains the int clutch pack into the case popped out!?! which in turn caused the intermediate piston to over extend and the lip seal popped out and tore.
did i just make a dip**** mistake and install the wrong snap ring? i installed the beveled spring in this position with the bevel up.

Beveled snap ring is tapered side forward but against the center support, Intermediate back plate gets the square cut ring, I've done it too, you're not alone.
