Hey I read that the Turbo shields "originally came from GM with a zinc electroplated finish which cannot be "correctly" duplicated with any paint or powdercoating."

whats the scoop on this, I have seen shields that look a flat silver (probably painted?), others that look shiny but not chrome (polished). Anyone have pics of what the shield should look like. Thanks

I still have the original finish on my shield. I've got a spare shield hiding somewhere with the same finish on it. I'd have to agree on the finish. I've never found out what type it was. If all else fails I can still get you a new shield from an OEM supplier. Cost is $45.00 but they aren't exactly concours quality as they have some rough spots here and there. Good for an all original car that is driven.

I've also replaced the bolts with what GM recommends according to the parts catalog. They are a stainless alloy that turns a real nice titanium color after awhile.

Thanks for the info, I cleaned my original shield with never-dull so it shines a little, but I wonder if I took off the original coating. Anyway, I'll check out he shield you currently have on your car to compare at the next meeting. Thanks
