turbo question

Hello, I was just wondering how long a turbo can sit without being used? Does not using the turbo affect the seals in any way or can a turbo sit for long periods of time. Thanks!

as long as the turbo spins freely and is not rusty you should be ok,also do end play test.

how long has it sat??? bearings need lubricated ,if sets to long no oil will get to bearings and can seize them. had prob with turbo that sat about 2 years had to get rebuilt

what about the seals though? I put a turbo on once that sat for a while, and worked perfectly fine before it was taken off a car, and it pumped oil into the exhaust makin my car smoke really bad. It still spins fine but the turbine shaft has a excessive amount of play in it, and I was just wondering about buying a turbo that has sat for a while. Thanks!

well how long has it sat ??? and if turbine shaft is loose will have to rebuild anyway,so up to you do a cost comparison and see what fits budget .unless pockets are deep, then i would go new .all i can say is see if you can try it be4 u buy it .either way your going to have to tear into it .oh i also used to be a big block guy 80 malibu supercharged 468 w/merlin vr heads .but i love my turbo 6 alot better gas mileage and not much power diff .well good luck and have fun with you turbo 6 :biggrin:
