What are the ramifications of installing a turbo with a recommended 3000 torque converter on a stock car? I will be installing fuel mods to support it, but how does a lower than recommended torque converter affect performance? Will the turbo never spool during normal driving? Will the turbo never spool for a launch? What exactly is or is not experienced when a person installs a turbo that has much higher requirements for a torque converter than what can be supplied by the currently installed converter? Thanks guys!

Get a RJC boost controller for $45. Do a search on it and read up on it. they swear you can spool a 66 w/stock D5 converter.

I don't think that you car with a stock converter will spool the 54 even with a good tune. Just wait until you can afford to do the converter. I have an extra 3000 n/l converter that I would sell you if you are interested, I will give you a killer deal, PM me if interested..

You will never get a launch, with a good amount of boost, unless your going to do a lot of racing, you would probably be alright, and still be able to enjoy the bigger turbo, when you take off, it will be dead for a few feet ( 10-20 ) then you will start to get boost, but remember, good exhaust, good breathing heads, cam, with a stock turbo will probably get you more out of your car, then just sticking on a bigger turbo. JMO.
p.s. upgrade fuel pump.
