Just got a turbo re-built and I am installing a precision turbo saver, it comes with a WIX 51049 filter.

Could I use any brand or would I have to use WIX each time I change the oil?

Would I need to look for a specific micron filtration specification?

Went on the WIX website and the filter with the kit is rated at 21 microns.

I can tell you what NOT to use...Fram PH11
This filter internally collapsed on my car, blew the o ring and oiled down the entire passenger side of my car as well as the undercarriage. Could have been catastrophic on the track !!!

Wix is a good filter to use and available at Oreilleys, Advanced , etc. Napa Gold is also a good filter.

I like the System 1 cleanable oil filters. Has a stainless steel filter screen that installs in a canister that will mount to the turbo saver. It cost a little money but won't have to buy a filter again.

I was looking into that one as well but from what I read it mounts the at the same location as the factory oil filter. I liked the fact that the oil filter would be mounted upright and I would be able to fill the filter after an oil change, I never liked a horizontally mounted filter. Not to mention the added oil filter capacity.

Another deciding point was the fact that I could go over to the parts store and pick up a filter if I would choose do a last minute oil change and not have to order a filter element TR customs.

Not trying to put the TR customs system down just my 2¢.

I have the TRcustoms turbo protector system. I have not installed yet, but I wish it had a stainless cleanable element like the System One filter

Precizion818, I believe they make a stainless cartridge now for the TR Customs turbo protector. If you go on CM Filters website (Canton Racing) the list one for the long and short filters. Their website does say that it's recommended for race use where oil is frequently inspected and changed.

Cool man thanks! I will check it out

X2. I've had my System1 filter for 16 years using it with the turbo saver. It really makes it nice to be able to unscrew the cap and remove the filter element to clean and inspect it, put it back together and done without having to buy a throwaway filter. It does cost more in the beginning but after 16 years of not buying a filter it has more than paid for itself.

I always use wix, i actually got a higher oil pressure at hot idle with a wix filter...

The cleanable filters filter down to 40 microns, replaceable ones filter down to 8 microns. For our cars I would stick with the replaceable ones.

Which specific disposable filters get down or close to 8 micron filtration?

Thanks again everyone for the input.

Why not take the stock feed line off and run a new line to a standard remote mount filter available anywhere then back to the turbo ? What's special about these expensive filter kits .

That is exactly what I did on my car right now. Purchased everything from Jegs I believe. It works, but I would like to have fewer lines in my engine bay, so I am considering switching.
