I usually don't post ramblings about my buying/ selling experiences, but after my dealing with turbonetics on Friday, I'm fired up to say the least. I purchased a T70 Dual Ball Bearing from them, and a NewGen wastegate, to the tune of about $2500 over a year ago. I had never used either part, and ended up having to send the T70 back to them because of abnormal play in the shaft, just upon inspection. I was able to send the turbo back to them in June, and sure enough they needed to replace the bearings and center shaft. 5 weeks later I got my turbo back from them, no charge to me, all covered under warranty. Perfect!
Well, stupid me never opened up the box when I got the turbo back until this tuesday. The original turbo I ordered from them had a polished compressor housing and ceramic coated exhaust housing. However when I originally purchased the turbo, I sent off the compressor housing to be micropolished and powdercoated clear, to the tune of about $95, and the exhaust housing was ported and the wastegate hole opened slightly to the tune of $165. I had also made clearance markings on the exhaust housing for the wastegate I was running. Needless to say, the parts were modified beyond stock, and I'd definatley be able to tell if I didn't get my same stuff back.
Sure enough, I open up the box from turbonetics to check out the turbo and I get back a stock polished compressor housing and a stock bare casting ceramic coated exhaust housing then looks like is was used once before, and then cleaned up. (even the coating is dull like it was ran before) Keep in mind I had never ran this turbo yet! So I call up turbonetics and after about 45 minutes of explaining the situation to 2 different tech guys, I ask for the manager, Reggie. Reggie explains to me that it would be impossible for me to get back parts that were not my own because they didn't ceramic coat exhaust housings anymore, and furthermore, they did not have to replace either of my housings, just the bearings. well, no sh*t.
Obviously the housings had to be taken off to replace the bearings in the turbo, so I figured it was just a mixup, and they gave me someone else's housings. Reggie assured me this did not happen. I explained to him that obviously I didn't get back what I had sent them, and he's trying to tell me its impossible. He then says "Gino, you got back exactly what you sent us. I'm sure you didn't send us anything that you didn't get back. Everyone's parts get put into a bin and assembled the same way. It would be impossible for us to mix anything up, I'm sure of that." So basically he's telling me I'm trying to pull a fast one on them. Now I'm pissed. For those of you who know me, I have been around the turbo buicks for 5+ years and have never had a bad dealing with anyone. If there ever was a misunderstanding, it has been made right. I told reggie I'm not trying to get anything for free, I just want my parts back! Long story short, he says theres nothing he can do for me. sorry.
I have receipts for the work I had done on the housings, but I guess that's not good enough. He told me if I don't have a picture of everything I had done, installed on that turbo, I have no leg to stand on. Which I don't. So basically it's my word against his. And I guess it's my fault for not opening up the box right away when I got the turbo back, but hell, this is rediculous. I understand where they are coming from, but he was not even willing to go check around in the shop to see if my parts might still be there. Probably a long shot, but he wouldn't even do that. I guess in the grand scheme of things $250-300 isnt a big deal, but now I have to go through all the BS of getting everything redone and have the housings re-coated. I'm just glad I wasn't in a pinch for the turbo right away, or I'd be steaming pissed. Regardless, I will never do business with Turbonetics again nor will I EVER recommend anyone go there for anything. I always had good luck with Precision and Limit turbos, but I wanted to try a dual BB unit which at the time, turbonetics had a good rep with those running their products. Never again for me, thats for sure. I'll stick with the guys that do right by me.

Ok, that's my 2 pennies, thanks for listening. Hope someone learned a lesson from my mistakes.

Thanx for the heads up Gino!! We are all capable of human error but Reggie not even going to the effort of looking for your parts is unacceptable!!! and I would have been pissed to have to wait 5 weeks for my turbo anyway!! Thats when they should have just dropped a brand new one in the mail for you. Good luck and i'll be sure Not to do any business with the guys at Tnetics.

Why did you send it in with the housing on in the first place especially if they were modded or you had money in them? Anytime I have sent one out I take them off.... they ask for it that way so you aren't shipping all that weight. You have to protect yourself and do these things before it gets to this point. Not much you can do now.

Good point as well Intercooler! I would have been afraid to have it scratched or damaged in some way? I also had my exhaust side ceramic coated and turbo side polished and they went seperate and by themselves but that doesn't take away from the Mgr not even trying to look for his items!!

If I am reading this right it was already DOA... LOL!

Once it gets to them they are responsible for damage ;) With good packing materials it shouldn't be a problem at all. They aren't as fragile as one might think.

Definately,
I should have pulled the housings off and sent the turbo out bare, but hindsight is always 20/20 I guess. Either way I wasn't expecting them to dick me around the way they did. *Sigh*

Well hopefully the guys at TN will think twice about at least looking for someone's stuff in the future!!

Turbonetics Never Again Bs.....

Gino,

First Thing First Before You Get On A Forum And Tell Someone Or Everyone About Your Bad Exprerience Tell The Truth. Ok, It Goes Likes This Since I Was One Of The Gentle Man That You Are Bad Mouthing Now And You Only Told Me Two Stories. First Thing Is That We You Called In And Was Complaining About Your Warranty Turbo I Took The Time To Help You Out. I Found Your Warranty That We Did For You And I Look At The Repair Order That Was Done For You. Looking At The Repair Order It Shows That You Needed A New Turbine Wheel And A Repair Kit. From The Get Go All Turbos That Leave Turbonetics Leave With A New Repair Kit No Mater If It Had Five Minutes Of Run Time Or Three Years. Also The Turbo Looked Like It Was Drop Because The Turbine Wheel Had Some Damage To It.
Then Lets Get To Your Complaint Which Was That Your Compressor Housing And Turbine Housing Wasnt Return Back To You In The Form In Which You Bought Them. Then After A Few Phone Calls And Talking To You In Regards To You Not Getting The Polished And Ceramic Coat Housings Back It Turns Out That You Got Your Polished Compressor Housing Back And Coated Turbine Housing Back. The Only Thing Is That It Wasnt Return Like You Sent It. On The Second Thought We Havent Done Coating In Over A Year And When We Get A Turbine Housing In With A Coated Housing It Leaves With The Same Coated Housing Unless It Was Damaged Then We Would Replace It With A Non Coated Turbine Housing.
Here Comes The Procedure On The Turbo Repairs And Warrantys. They Get Recieved Then Put In There Own Platic Trays So That Your Turbo And Other Customers Turbos Cant Be Missed Matched. Then It Would Get Torn Down With Your Parts Going Back In The Same Tray That It Was Torn Down In. Also On The Repair Order It Is Stated That It Has A Ceramic Coated Housing. In Your Case Though It Didnt Need A New Turbine Housing So You Would Recieve The Same One Back That You Sent In. Also In The Post That You Put You Forgot To Meantion That You Had It Ported So If That Was The Case We Would Give You Back The Same Housing. Also You Got Hooked Up On This Since You Bought This Turbo Two Years Ago And Our No Fault No Hassle Warranty Is A Year Only So You Must Of Done Some Crying For Them To Hook You Up.
On Your Parts You Would Have To Remember That Used Parts Are No Good To Turbonetics So We Would Have No Need For You Turbo And What Company Would Help You Out And Fix A Perfect Turbo That You Messed Up..

Just To Add One Thing Is That No Bearing Housing Was Changed You Still Had You Same Bearing Housing.

Gino - Sorry to hear about your woes.

...another company selling hi tech toys outside but a little lo tech inside.

I 'm having great luck with Garret.

well, I dont like turbonetics to much, BUT they do make good products. I learned to never deal with them direclty when I called a while back asking some questions and some a##hole gave me a bunch of problems. oh well.

exactly why you should deal with Jack cotton instead of directly with turbonetics

I now run turbonetics turbo's and havent had the first problem

sounds to me like you came out way ahead? If the turbo was damaged and out of waranty whats the compliant? If the housing was damaged would you rather have the coated damaged housing back? If the turbo was damaged during shipping the first time, why would you wait 6 months to check it the second time around?

Just had T-netics freshen my 70Q. Very good experience, with a return time of less than 3 weeks from the day it left my door. Sorry to hear you had problems. Best of luck, Brian

Way off subject...

Who in Hell wrote that!?! Every word starts with a capital..... phrases like:
It Goes Likes This Since......
We Would Have No Need For You Turbo And .....
First Thing Is That We You Called In......
I just couldn't let this go-- I had to read the damn thing 4x's just to get it. I rarely comment about peoples writing errors, but if your representing a business and defending no less it should be easy to understand and well thought out!
I would get someone to help, matter of fact; in the future if you want, feel free to PM me your response, and I will check it for you, and PM back the corrected draft. I am by no means a English professor....I make alot of mistakes myself but it just looks really bad, and a tad embarassing.

Going to say the same thing, first thing that came to mind was,"This guy is representing a business and doing customer relations?" Howmuch longer do you supppose it took him to upper case that one paragraph retalitation

Well I think that he spent a Whole lot more time on writing his excuse than he did looking for Gino's parts, LOL.

I don't put much faith in unsigned replies.

Could be a joke too.

Anybody could have written that with a broken cap locks key. :p

Who in the Hell wrote that?, is appropriate.

If the caps key was broken, wouldn't it have upper cased all letters, not just the first letter in a word?
Just curious?
