I bought this and was told it was comparable to the TE-44 turbo.

Numbers on back of intake side (on a turbonetics tag) are:

# t-14980

Cast in the exhaust side is:

20240

Journal Bearing.

It has a 3" intake hole. .63 exhaust a/r

No bent fins ... but it has enough side to side shaft play that the fins have started to contact (shave) the cover in a couple small spots on the intake side.

No in/out shaft play.

Has been coated on the exhaust side (Eastwood?), some rust is showing through. It has a nice polished intake side, but can use a spruce up polish job.

I dont know the mileage.

My plan was to send it out to get rebuilt, but bought a new turbo instead.

I have seen this turbo for sale at $1100 + shipping + exhaust coating.

I will take $350 shipped by UPS with $100 insurance and tracking included.

Thanks :) ---

I have to ask, why does the turbine wheel appear to have a fresh coating of oil??

I didnt use the turbo, but it does appear that way.

Its been sitting in a box for over a year now.

I am selling it as needing a rebuild ... so that shouldnt matter :)

Hopefully someone can get it rebuilt for around $250, and have a nice turbo for 1/2 the price of a new one ---

FYI:If you do have a Turbonetics turbo you can only send them to Turbonetics to have rebuilt. I called around last year and found this out. To have them look at it cost almost $250 or more Not including parts. Let just say I have a big paper weight at home.

That is incorrect.

I just read the email they sent me back about rebuilding it.

Its a $100 inspection fee that isnt refundable. I am sure all professional turbo rebuilding places do this. Why would they put time into something and not get compensated for it?

I am sure some shops or even members on here can rebuild it, I had a member/shop from the SYTY forums that was going to rebuild it for me at a total cost of $250 shipped back to me ---

An inpspection fee just means there gonna break it down and maybe put it back together. Your basicly getting a verdict for that $.

I just went through this with a Te-44 few months ago. Guy ended up paying me $200 shipped and he spent $250 to have it rebuilt.

This is not true. They are all serviceable by anyone with the proper knowledge. Ive found that i can source parts for tnetics easier than other vendors. Anything with a capital A cast onto it is allied signal product. So you are dealing with Garrett parts on overhaul. The tnetics ball bearing turbos are easily serviced also. Don't be bullchitted by vendors that try to get you to trade a hurt turbo for peanuts toward a new one so they can send it back under warranty and sell it at a huge profit when they get it back. Fix them yourself and send the CHRA out for balancing. I've fixed turbos with large compressor wheels ball bearing or whatever for less than $300 including shipping and cost of all parts. I was quoted $800 on one last year  If you have a billet compressor wheel you will have a hard time trying to replace it if you damage it. Pretty much all the turbines out there are the same regardless of what brand the turbo is. Some newer stuff coming out but I haven't seen it yet.

So buy the parts direct from tnetics and send to who for balancing?

I buy most of my parts from limit or g pop. You should be able to find someone close to you that can balance. Both of them can do it. Tnetics will direct you to another supplier for their parts. I've found they are too expensive. G pop has hooked me up with hard to find wheels and repaired damaged backing pores for me. They also have the ability to machine housings and the pricing is reasonable.

I had a Turbo rebuilt by G-Pop and took it to the track and in failed hard. When tried to get warranty on it they said the would warranty it because it was used for racing

How did it fail? Chances are if they rebuilt it it got small parts and possibly a bearing housing. If the turbine failed or something went through the compressor then I wouldnt expect a warranty. There are only a few things that can fail in a turbo. Not much room for error on assembly either. Post pics of failure in another thread.

X2 on the G-Pop shop. Always had good luck with them. Phil.

OK, I will eat the paypal fee.

$220 shipped.

It should be no problem to get it rebuilt for $280 ... so thats a rebuilt NICE turbo for $500!!! :) ---
