Hi, here some questions about AC Delco ignition system:

I purchased type II ignition module(part# 10456478) and three coils for my GN 87. It should be AC Delco(boxes says AC Delco but the the things hasn´t any AC Delco logo?, OK?). Question:

I noticed the piece of plastic tape, which is covering the small round hole(seems to be hole) in the center of metallic cover(actual "brains part") in the ignition module. If I lay the coils onto module, this piece of tape remains under the influence of weather and I thought, that in the long run it can be go away and the water goes into module.

Is all ok or should i have some additional gasget or some between the coils and module? I have got only the "oval" shape little rubber seals for the coil positions.

type II

Hi,
I think these systems are pretty well sealed, as GM put them in all kinds of totally exposed places. The old 2.8 v6 had a type two mounted in the lower front of the engine, and the 2.5 four banger mounted it on the backside of the block, transversely speaking. Service nightmares,to be sure, but they don't give problems until past 100K. If it bugs you, take the tape off and put a dab of silicone there. Can't hurt, might help.

Thats all there is sealing it tight. Those 3 oval shaped seals. I dont think you will have a problem. If there was GM would have fixed it. There are millions of cars with that coil and module out on the road.

Hi,

thank you 83ttypecooled and turbofish38 for your reply! Now I´m sure everything is ok for installing the module and coils.

How you feel, is there any needs to install an additional cooling plate with the fins (as in the many electronics work) under the adapter plate to cool the ignition module or is the module and coils getting heat mainly from the engine?
