Upgrading the return fuel line - connection at the tank

I have upgraded the return line to a -6. I got all of the connection hardware to connect to the bottom of he reg, I used the Teflon lined braided from the regulator back to the tank. Currently I have it connected in to the rubber hose that goes over the axle.
The question I have is how are folk handling the short piece of steel line that sits on top of the tank. That would still be a point of restriction, would it not.
Are you connecting the replacement braided line directly to the barb on the tank hanger?

The biggest restrictions are the saginaw fittings. You can put an AN 6 male on the teflon line and add something like this http://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS-Performance-Products/555/100845/10002/-1?parentProductId=1281861 The inlet hose isn't 3/8" but I believe you can get that hose on the barb.
