Is a driver needed for the USB port??

I used to be able to download pics from my camera through the USB port but since having to reload Win98SE I haven't been able to download them. I do have my DSL through one of the two USB ports.

Any puter guys can answer this?? Thanks.

Yeah it needs a driver, but if your dsl is running off another usb port, doesnt sound like a Usb driver problem. Have a look at device manager, but I rather suspect you need to reinstall the software/ driver for the digital camera. Hth.

??????????????

Still can't spell?? It's not usb driver. Its Bus driver!! Damn! I can't teach you a thing!!!!:D :D :p

Ah Chucky....how would you know about short buses? Weren't they short wagons in your day??

Thanks Striker....originally I did reinstall the camera software. The puter still couldn't find the camera when it was attached via USB....so I was using the serial port.

Just recently I got another camera without any software....I downloaded the camera drivers from the net and the puter still can't find the camera.

That's what led me to believe it has something to do with USB driver since I've installed one camera's originaly software and the other camera's drivers.

Any new suggestions? Thanks.

Chris check the ports and see if the USB port you are trying to use has a driver being used by it.

I have had to go in and disable the driver first and then the USB port works just fine. Its as if the driver locks out the port for anything else.

Hi Reg,

Thanks....I just tried that and it still won't work.

Damn technology...can't wait until I can buy a Brownie 110 again. :D

And why is this thread producing double replies?

'Preciate it Sully.

Apparently the upgrade is for the AMD chip....mine is Intel so I didn't download it in case I do more damage.

I'm going to check with the people who provide me with DSL in our small town. Perhaps they can figure it out.

Oh.. You should check with your motherboard manufacturer... they would have the latest driver if needed then.

S.
