In my 2008 pickup truck, there is a round plug on the dash to connect an "IPod", but no USB connector like in my girlfriend's 2010 car.

1° question: Does someone know if there is some kind of adapter I can use to connect into the truck's original "IPod" connector to a female USB enabling me to play the music I have on my USB flash drive ?

...OR...

2° question: If no adapler will work or is available, then is it possible to have a USB connector added to my truck's original sound system?

Thanks,

Claude.

Round plug? Get me a picture and I'll see what I can do for you man.

There is no need for that Pronto. Toofastforyou. Here is what you need. You need a dual headphone jack cord.

ZNix, it looks like one end could go into my existing round connector in the dash (pictured above), but there would have to be a female USB connector on the other end to connect my USB key!...I don't even know if such a device exists or would work... It's not an "IPod" I want to use, but rather a USB key on which my music is stored...

Thanks,

Claude.

Ur gonna need a device that has a flash drive input but with a headphone jack output..my kenwood radio in my van has both..

Mmmm...I think we're getting close! Where to get a device like that?...and will it work for sure?

Claude.

I may be wrong. But I do not believe there is such an adapter for this situation. I would say your best bet is what Pronto showed earlier (Sorry Pronto :D). That or get yourself an MP3 player and one of the headphone to headphone cords. The only adapter I was able to find is male USB to female headphones.. Which will not work for you.

Like I said, could be wrong. Maybe someone else will chime in soon.

Wouldnt an ipod shuffle cable work? It has a small pin at one end and usb at the other. Apple sells them

That and i think they have them at truck stops too..but the prob also is will his factory radio read a usb drive thru a headphone jack...I had one that input headphone jack and usb and it was an rf transmitter that played thru blank radio stations it worked awesome..and i got it at a tr stop....

Would you happen to have a picture of this so I know what to look for?

Thanks,

that plug in the stereo is simply a microphone jack- you could plug a microphone in it and hear yourself talk over your speakers, a cell phone to use your stereo as a speaker phone, a Walkman cassette player from the early 80's so you can jam out to your old Twisted Sister tapes, or an mp3 player.
the stereo in the truck would have no control over the device that was plugged into it, but you could control the volume of the sound coming out of the speakers.
there is no way to simply hook up a usb thumb drive to that without having some sort of a device to read the thumbdrive and convert the mp3 files into an analog signal that the stereo could amplify and play thru the speakers.
if the stereo says "mp3" on it, you could burn a bunch of mp3's onto a cd and play that thru the stereo- i've got my entire Metallica library on a single cd in mp3 form- and that's not just all of the studio albums, but also live albums, b sides, unreleased stuff, and a few oddball live songs. there is something like 200 songs on that cd..

novaderrick is correct which is y i suggested the rf transmitter for what he wants to do....

..

Thanks! "novaderrick"...this answers my initial question. :D Now I understand a little better. Also thanks to all others who replied. I guess that I'll have to get a device like "Pronto" and "turboc87gn" showed if I want it to work...
