UTI or other car schools??

well i am 19 and working all the time and currently going to community college.

well school sucks and i dont feel that it is right for me at this time... i would like to go to an automotive school since it is what i love doing but jsut wondering if anyone has any experience with these schools or know somebody who has...

is it easy to get jobs after school? i know what the schools tell ya but just want to know from real experience...

and also what type of pay do ya start out after wards... and how long does the school actually take??

i have emailed UTI and got no response... what other schools are out there

I went to UTI in Houston about 3 er 4 years ago. I took the auto deisel program and learned alot, but at a steep price! I believe after all was said and done, it was around 18 grand. The program was 14 months and unlike college, it was straight through, no breaks. As far as the "job placement" they tell you about, most of it is BS. I told them I was looking to work on cars here in Kansas (home) and they found me a job working on deisels in Missouri. I ended up finding a job on my own and I love it! Said thing is, I had already had all the skills I use now, before going to school. All-in-all I don't regret going. It's good on the resume, at least. I think it's really about what you want; the knowledge, or a job. Just research what a tech school would offer, (disregard all the hype) and make a desision based on what you would do afterward; dealership, machine shop, neighborhood mechanic, etc. Just my thoughts. Some love it, some hate it.

What ever you do, don't sign anything sight-unseen. Some pals of mine signed up for the Phoenix UTI and got placed in a very scary housing situation. In fact, I think once they paid money, they were left on there own. Get your parents involved so the schools will take you more seriously.

As far as what school is best or if it's worth it... I will never say anykind of education is useless, however, everyone gets out exactly what they put in. If you're dedicated and work, you'll learn something. If you go to party, well...

Money will come with experience and flexibility. If you go to tech school and follow up with a dealership program, and you're willing to relocate, you may be surprised at the money being offered.

I went to UTI in Phoenix back in 88. I went for the automotive program and mostly went for the electrical, automatic trans, differentials, and engine performance aspects. I already new about brakes, suspension, and other stuff. It helped out in job searches and landing the good jobs, not working in gas stations and little hole in the wall places. I mostly went for the auto trans experience and never looked back. That is what I do for a living now and can't get enough of automatics. Then again, I'm the only person who probably enjoys working on cars around here and doesn't look at it like it's just a job.

Met lots of interesting people and lots of hotties while in Phoenix.

I am not a recruiter or anything but, the military is good experience also and looks good on a resume. They have mechanics also. Plus you get paid while doing it.

Auto tech schools

While there are many schools around, in my experience the one that stands the tallest is Wyoming Tech, in Laramie Wy.
I have been an automotive teacher, and have visited Wyo tech, UTI, and ATI campus's, I feel Wyo tech is far superior to the others, the curriclum is probably simular to the others, but the assistance is much better, ( they can show you how to get Grants for 90% of the costs) believe me, I have sent over a dozen students there! and most of them now make a lot more than I do!
Call them ( all of them) ask to visit the campus, do not believe the salesman see for your self!

I will be starting uti in august as of right now but when i talked to wyo tech i got a VERY bad rep i guess because they would not call back i set up a tour and they said a week before that they never had record of me EVER calling AND that no one had a tour set up for a mounth come on i can understand if some one screwed up because some one didnt put down the tour date but the fact that they told me i never called REALLY pissed me off and made me just not wont to go there plus uti is only a hour away

sorry for the rant but thats just how i feel about wyotech and how they treated me and my school
