Valve noise and knock ratio related?

Hey all,

Is there anyway that a relatively loud valve train (louder than it every was before) could be causing false knock? I drove the car all summer the same way and towards the end of August, even as the weather was getting cold, i noticed a louder "tick tick tick" coming from the psg side valvetrain. Now, when i used to get little to no knock, i'm recording 7.0deg+ i've seen 12, which is just downright scary. Any connection possible, everything else on the scanmaster seems normal and the same as usual?

i dropped my crank and put a new shortblock in. more valve train noise and more knock.
