Vanity License Plates

I wanted to confirm if the blue plates with yellow lettering was made for california cars up to 1983 only? I do recall my parents owning an 1986 Buick LeSabre with the same color scheme, but noted that the newer white plates were in use between 1984 thru 1986. My question is will I get hasseled by DMV, DPT & PD for having the wrong plate design for my 86? Thanks for any help.

1982 was the last year for the blue/yellow plates. Are yours currently registered to your car ?
