Im looking at getting an Intake and Plenum done for my new motor. My normal powdercoat guy says the chrome looks ok, but the newer Vapor Deposition process looks killer.
Has anyone on here had it done or know a good shop?

Thanks as always,
Coach:D

Sure you want all that "Shine"...I ceramic powerder coated mine, can't wait till it dull's, I'm not a chome guy

Enjoy!

This is Vapor Deposition coating. 3 layers. Resistant to gas, oil, and anything else under the hood. There are a few shops out there doing this. Edelbrock started it a few years ago. This is what Im asking about.
I've got 5 cars, all with several powdercoated items. I've seen all the colors. I want my new stroker to "POP" when I lift the hood.

Cost me just over $600 for my intake, vavle covers,headers,cross-over,turbo shield an downpipe all in ceramic jetcoat...

I have a connection with New Image Powdercoatings. My friend Jim has been doing Ceramic coating for over 20 years now. I like the look and he has already done my downpipe and my Kenne Bell headers, but I do not want the intake and other items done that way. I want it either mirror polished or vapor. Im deciding. It's only $$$, as long as Mrs. Coach doesnt find out.

I just got a quote back from Mirror Polishing Co. $650.00!!!!!!!!! I must have been asleep for a decade or so. When I was building cars, back in the 90's...a mirror polished intake was 175.00. These guys want 415 and 235 for the doghouse.

that pretty stuff is expensive.
thats why my junk is so damn ugly.
Don't forget to post up some pictures when your done.

I just heard back from Goodrich...(cGULP), 600 smackers to do a lower intake and a doghouse.:eek::eek:
Coach, do you know if they grind/sand the casting smooth before they apply the coating or does the coating fill in the casting marks? I suspected it would be expensive but it sure beats trying to maintain polished aluminum.

Im going to call the guy and ask a few questions. That is one of them. If its a heavy enough plating, it might go right over. The Edelbrock intakes look super smooth and I cant imagine that they polish each intake before.
