Just confused about the differences between Direct Scan, Power Logger, and TurboLink. I have a scan master and am looking for something to supplement that on my Vista laptop. Looking for the best tool to use to really tune the car.

Can someone please explain these to me?:confused::confused:

best tool would be the powerlogger with a lc-1 wideband. direct scan and turbolink where good back in the day but the powerlogger has taken the stock ecm to a whole new level

Turbolink and Direct Scan are much older scantools that are for the most part no longer supported.

Turbolink was an ALDL based tool that read it's data from the ALDL data link under the dash. A very slow data stream that only updated once ever 1.5 seconds.

Direct Scan was state of the art for it's time. It was hooked directly to the ECM's address and data bus, and as such was VERY fast with data being updated as much as 18 frames per second.

Powerlogger is also a high speed logger which communicates directly with the ECM's address and data bus and has update rates as high as 18+ frames per second. It is supported and updated regularly (and has some pretty nifty updates in the works).
PL, also communicates data directly to scanmaster which turns it into a super display for some very important data like WBO2 A/F ratios (if you have one installed), manifold pressure/boost (if you have a 3 bar installed), etc. etc.!!!!
So for daily driving your scanmaster can now display air fuel ratios saving you the need for the laptop or even the extra expense of an air fuel ratio gauge.

HTH.

Thanks guys. So power logger seems to be the route to go.

I just recently purchased my Scanmaster from Full Throttle. Did I need to get a specific one in order for it to work with the power logger, or do all of the 2.1's work with it?

When you order powerlogger, tell them you have a scanmaster that needs the upgrade chip and you will get a chip to upgrade your scanmaster to the 2.2 version needed to work with powerlogger.
