Very high idle when cold

When I crank my car in the mornings it idles very high, and I have to hit the gas pedal to idle it down, and once driving when engine gets warm , it still idles high but not as high and once again hit the pedal and idles down. The pedal is hard to mash when I do it for the first inch of depression , any ideas?

The throttle body may be "gummed up" with oil residue from the PCV. Probably just needs to be cleaned, but DON'T use carb cleaner. The make special cleaner for TB's. That's where I would start. Good luck
