Thanks that is a great thread that I used to diagnose it 1 month ago with the D5 and at that time it was the brake switch. I have 12 v at the purple and if I flip the switch and measure across the tan/blk and the purple I have 12v. I assume that is a good ground. Still looking more into it tonite. Had to take the little ones trick or treating, Ill post in a bit what I find.

Well I have 12v at the purple,Grnd is ok on the tan/blk and the corresponding pins on the trans read 20 ohms so the solonoid is working I assume, What the heck else is there? This is starting to suck. I spent alot for the converter and taking it in to have the pump tube put in and now Im troubleshooting it and cant figure it out. I took it to Vince and I think he had a pump with the mod done to it that he switched for mine. That is the only different piece othere than the rebuilt Vigilante.Am I missing something? Im checking for lock up after the 2nd gear shift and it should drag the motor down under light acceleration and its not. Thanks for looking and helping on this but Im outta ideas???

After more testing this is what I have, Electrical seems to be OK. With the plug connected I have 12v on pin A and D with the lock up switch on. I hear a faint click in the trans when I flip the switch so I assume the solonoid is working also. The odd thing is that the converter dont make a sound in P or Nuetral but if I have it locked in gear I can hear the clutches rattling. Is this normal? Is there a chance the converter is bad from the factory? I guess I am going to do more digging into it. Searching old threads for info is getting me closer I think. Thanks for the help. Marty

The rattliing indicates they're not locked. But remember, even if you throw the switch, the converter CAN'T lock in first gear. There's a fluid circuit (forgot which) that prevents converter lock in first gear under any circumstances.

I understand about the lock up not happening in first. It was just odd to hear them rattle in gear with the switch on but stopped if the switch was off. I thought they only rattled in P or N. Still trying to figure out the problem.

Thanks for all the help but Im going to start a new thread to help troubleshoot this a little better. Today I pulled the pan again and triple checked the solonoid and it indeed is working. I flipped the TCC switch then would watch it as I plugged and unplugged the 4 prong connecter. I then removed it and manually pushed the valve above it in and out and it didnt bind. I am at a loss on this and cant find anymore in the searches. Thanks for any help. Marty

You need to make sure that the solenoid is functioning properly to make sure the system is working properly. Drive up to 2nd gear and activate solenoid and watch rpm's and you can feel it lockup.

Im hoping its the solenoid. It was activating but not sealing completly. I could blow through it then activate it and the air would slow but not stop. Maybe with the D5 that was in there it had enough psi but the 5 disc may need more. I assume. I hope this is it. Ill post after work. Honestly I cant find anything else that could be the culprit.

It was not the solenoid. It looks like its the new converter. I forced lock up with a check ball on top of the tube to push in the valve and tha car acts normal. Unhappy

Well in the end it was the brand new rebuilt vigilante converter. I ended up having to take the car to Vince Janis who I bought the converter from and had the trans work done. Sucked because he is 3 1/2 hours away. After pulling the conv. and putting in a D5 and putting the vigilante on another trans it was sure to be the Converter. He sent it back to Precision and after 10 days got it back and they said the clutches were too tight in it and it was fixed. NOT... Vince put in the converter and still no lock up. After this he had a new one on the shelf and put in my car. Perfect lock up, In the end Vince took care of everything and wouldnt accept any money for all the extra work. I think he pulled the trans no less than 5 times on this. I ended up with a brand new converter and about $250 in gas and tolls to take care of the problem. This was no fault of mine or Vinces. In 10 years he had never had this happen. So hats off to Janis transmissions for standing behind a product. Im not too sure about Precision Industries thou.

I think I may have a similar issue with a Vig 5 disk. Pulled it out to get restalled, was locking up fine, when I got it back from them, never had lockup. Going to swap in the D5 soon to make sure it's not the tranny and send the converter back. Hope they pickup the tab.
