Hard to imagine it ballooning, with that massive billet front end they have.

There's a simple way to check the internal endplay of the T/C. If it is out of the manufacturers spec, then it should be corrected.

I was thinking today that it just may have pushed away from the trans shaft from high pressures, rather than actually "ballooning". Automatics are a mystery to me.

I have seen a 7 Disc Balloon, and it was not repairable unless sent back to P.I.

They do normally have that forward push like you're imagining, but if internal pressures and forces gets too high, ballooning can occur.
