Vigilante Coverters

I will be upgrading turbos soon to a 67bb and was planning on going with a Vigilante 3200 converter.. On Fullthrottle.com they offer 2 types.. a single disc and a 5 disc both ock up... Whats the difference, daily driver with about 10 passes at the trck... thanks.

The 5 disc is only needed if you want to lock the converter at WOT. But the only time you really want to lock the converter is in 3rd gear and do not let the trans shift into OD when locked. I have a 5 disc converter and locked it once just to see what it felt like. If I was doing it over again, I would save the $$$ and get the single disc and not lock it. You will be lucky to gain a tenth and the downside it putting extra wear on your trans/converter. My $.02.

To some extent I agree. Where I disagree is the amount of gain. it's more like 2 tenths and 2mph. Any thoughts of locking at WOT on a regular basis would dictate the 5 disc. For normal street driving of course a single disc would suffice.

I was told that you can get 2 tenths if you lock it as soon as it hits 2nd. I had a friend with a 7 disc and he said the car shifted "violently" when the 7 disc was locked during the 2-3 shift. I decided even if it was 2 tenths it was not worthing trashing a transmission I just spent $1800 on. Even though it has the billet drum. But that was just me.
