Voltage question

Checked my alt voltage while the car was running today....

Got a reading of 17.33 v..... WTF ? Does that sound a 'lil high for you guys...I was thinkin' yes.

If so - why is it so high and what would cause that.....
If the alt was crappin' out I would think it would be low - no ?

How old is the alternator? Maybe the internal voltage regulator is giving up the ghost. Is your VOM calibrated properly?

Not sure...its been there since I owned the car (4 yrs+)...
I checked it again today - got 18.75V !!!

It seems way too high IMO. Dont know much about alt though....
Might be due for a rebuild kit ? There was a thread he awhile ago about
an 100 or 120 amp rebuild kit.

My Voltage meter is good.

Voltage Output Should Not Exceed 15volts, If So The Voltage Regulator Is Bad.

Last thing I need is a battery going thru my hood / IC / piping etc.....

Who knows how long it's been this way too....never checked my batt V 'till now when I was setting the TPS. Checked it out of curiosity too....

Took the Alt in to a local place. Getting rebuilt and beefed up from 94 amp to 120 amp.

Cost - $160 CDN.

Picking it up Wednesday.

Better get it fixed quick, I've had a battery exploded on the highway from overcharging.

Hopefully, the high voltage hasn't damaged other sensitive electronics on the car. If you begin to or have noticed other electrical gremlins recently, suspect the alternator as the cause. (light bulbs burning out prematurely or seeming brighter than normal?)

My digital climate control crapped out.
Figure the Alt did it ? It started working intermittently since I got the car running 1 week ago. Now - nothing - no fan - no lights - dead.
