I was talking to a local guy here in CT who said if I up grade to a hotwired Walbro 340 I would have to replace the fuel line(s) with steel braided fuel line(s). Is this true? Would it make a difference if the pump was not hotwired? I want to make sure I do this right the first time. Thanks.

Yes, that is true. Always use braided line with the Walbro 340.

Not really. Maybe he uses braided hair to hide his weed and got confused.

Thanks,

It sounded a bit weird. I just didn’t want to marinate the GN with petrol.

Turbo cliff on this board went 10.60's @ 125+ on a 340 and stock lines.

Yeah I have done 127 mph on a single 340 and stock lines..

and once I upgrade turbos from the pt54 to something bigger... I plan on going faster.

and I won't touch the fuel system unless I need to.

I think people underestimate what a single 340 can do.

Personally I think you're probably getting close to the limit already. IMO people *should* underestimate what it can do as a matter of conservative design practice :) If the system has say partial clogging of the fuel filter for example, which seems to happen pretty fast on our cars in general, that limit comes down even more. Not everyone will be as diligent at the details required to operate at the limit, yet sure enough everyone will remember that "so and so ran 130 mph on a single 340, so go for it do0d! :) JMO...

probably not bad advice...

I am not saying people SHOULDN'T underestimate... just that most do. I have seen too many twin pump setups on 12 and 11 sec cars and IMHO there is just no need.

But just incase, I have been preparing to get a second 340 on a hobbs switch.

Yes I agree. And it seems a single 340 can go at least 125'ish safely in general, which is pretty darn impressive really. Sounds like you are prepared to find out just how far it can actually go- should be interesting. I hope you have a wb O2, 2 pairs of eyes and a very quick right foot, lol. The good news is, 2 340's seem to cover just about all the rest of the street perf range quite nicely :) I still have the dual 340 setup in mine. But have upgraded to a -8 feed line and an Aeromotive filter. Since the car isn't too far from the the 120 mph in the 1/8th mark (through the 3" ATR SS exh no less) ;) it was prolly about time for an upgraded feed; I can be so darn lazy lol :D

I don't know the limit of the 340 with the stock factory line but my 86 turbo Regal ran 134 mph in the 1/4, 108 mph in the 1/8 with a 340 in-tank pump as well as an inline pump on the same factory 3/8" line "hot wired". It is my understanding that others have run considerably faster with the stock factory line.

I'm started my combo off with the single 340. How much cost to go with two? Also what kind of cost to do the bigger fuel lines? Also how hard to do the bigger lines?

It is about $550 for the double pumper. You do not need new lines, unless you plan on going into the 9s.
