There is what appears to be a schrader(sp?) valve in the outlet end of the Walbro 340 pump, what's it's purpose? should it be removed/modified before installing??

If your talking about the assembly that's in the outlet pipe, then it's a check valve. It's purpose is to make starting easier by holding fuel pressure when the engine is off. You could remove it for slightly more flow, but fuel pressure will drop off to zero with the engine off, causing a slight delay when starting until it re-pressurizes. I would leave it alone.
