I am in the middle of an entire front end rework. I picked up Duralast lifetimes from Autozone, everything... Upper and lower balljoints, upper and lower control arm bushing and inner/outer tie rod ends. With a new set of springs and KYB gas-adjust shocks, I am looking to have a nice new feel with my car. I thought it handled OK before, and then I saw the condition of some of the bushings, and I am very curious to see how it is going to be.
I tell you, you are quite lucky that you were at a slow speed. Many years ago, I was on the interstate and I had a nut come off the pitman arm to the drag link while going about 70 MPH. It is truely a scary feeling when the car does not react to the steering wheel turning... I used a shop rag to tie around the joint and limped about 1 1/2 miles on the shoulder to an exit to ponder through a service stations nut and bolt bin to fine a castle nut and put it all back together. Not a fun memorable moment for me.
