Hi there. Looking for some advice on my new set up. It is a race only car. Having issues with boost control. Running a PET HP6766 journal bearing turbo, with a internal wastegate using the factory style set up with a heavy duty actuator. Has a G body parts 3" down pipe. Running C16 fuel. I can supply more details if needed. It builds boost, peaks and then drops. Like the gate suddenly opens, then closes, then does it again, and again, and again, etc. Is this turbo too big, or is the control system inadequate? Has a Turbo Tweak chip burned for the C16, for 26-28 lbs of boost. I can give more items from the powerlogger graph too if you need to see it.

Thanks Tyler.

Have you tried a manual boost controller?

No I have not. I do have one from I think Vibrant Performance which looks to function the same way as the RJC one. If I understand correctly, this eliminates the wastegate solenoid correct?

This is a mess in several places.

Hey, I do have a wideband, but a I don't think it is working correctly. I am not getting any detonation, but the WB just shows really lean all the time. I thought the narrow band was supposed to be showing high low high low repeatedly as that was caused by it correcting the AFR? I will try to note everything about the build.

Stock block, diamond pistons +030, K1 rods, eagle crank, Champion aluminum heads, T&D rockers, Stock intake and exhaust manifolds, 3" down pipe with internal wastegate, stock fuel rails, 50 lb precision injectors, RJC power plate, 215-220 hyd roller cam, Morel roller lifters, Front Mount IC, Internally balanced, Neutral fluid damper, No AC, Manual Brakes, 2004R with 3700 stall convertor, Stock ECU with powerlogger, Scanmaster 2.1, waste gate actuator is the heavy duty one from G body parts. Turbo is a Precision HP6766. Stock throttle body, Fuel is C16, Stock fuel tank with a single Walbro 255lph in tank pump. Chip is Turbo Tweak, C16, 26-28 psi boost. This chip came from a guy with the injectors. I believe he was running a 6262 turbo.

Some things have been changed since these pictures were taken. Just looking for some help and advice. Thanks Tyler,

Nice build
That will require some upgrades unless you want to turn the boost down
The race gas is saving it from detonation.
As pronto said too the chip may need to be returned.
But its pretty clear its lean and I would advise not running the boost there.

If you got a chip set up for 62/62 and you are running 67/76 there is no way it is accurate. Probably what is causing the surge.

At bare minimum you need a bigger fuel pump, 50 pph injectors are good for 600 hp and your turbo is good for about the same. Make sure the wideband is working you need it.

That MAF is not the greatest to use at 600 hp, you should get at least a Translator plus or go to a spped density set up but that is money.

A Bailey box would help with spark and has the added features of two step rev limiter which you can use with a 3700rpm stall on that converter.

Ok I will get a new chip from Eric. What injectors should I go to? And what is the go to fuel pump?

I did just install an LS1 MAF and a Translator in place of the stock one. 60 lb is no longer available so >

Injectors are chosen based on the power your aiming for.
A very good rule of thumb is chose based on your power goals then size up adding 20%.
This will allow for a cushion.

Thats a old school turbo rated around 750hp 95 lb will get you there this will need a 370 mph pump and return line to start
Fuel pumps supply the fuel
So you will need to have a horsepower goal.
is 750 your number ? you have some good parts to start.

It looks like you need to take a step back and evaluate your goals. You've got a build that's capable of a lot of hp but not any of the supporting parts for high hp. It needs lots of fuel, stable ignition and tuned for it's capabilities. If you want to move to alky injection or E85, you will need some different parts. You will also need to understand your tune much better if you want to use that engine to it's potential.
