Wastegate hole porting

I recently got an externally gated 3" DP. I have read in these forums I may need to port the wastegate hole to match the new DP. True? I would need to remove the turbo to make that happen, correct? Or could it be done with the turbo still on the car?

Porting the wastegate hole in the turbine housing, with the housing still installed on the turbo is not recommended. However, it has been done with a strong shop vac and the turbo off the car. I personally would make sure that your witness ring/mark from your current downpipe is plainly visible on the turbine housing, then remove the turbo. Remove the turbine housing from the turbo carefully and get to porting. Port the hole to just inside the carbon/witness ring, so that the hole will match as close as possible to the downpipes wastegate feed tube. Thoroughly clean the turbine housing out once you've finished grinding and polishing and reinstall it.
Porting the hole with the housing still installed on the turbo, not too mention with it still on the car can lead to debris/shavings getting into your motor and or turbos rotating assembly. Shavings fall back into the header, then on first start up, they get blasted into your turbine wheel. Not good.
