Water Temp "Idiot" Light

Sorry for the "n00b" question, but I was wondering at what temperature the water temp idiot light goes on to indicate that the car is overheating?

I plan to install an electrical water temp gauge anyway, but the question just happened to pop into my head...

I don't know but I've been to 215 on the Scanmaster and have never seen it.

im not sure of the exact temp but in most cars the temp light means head crackin hot. im gonna guess pretty dern hot like 230-260, the light means too late, most of the time

I hit that once, whn my fan didnt turn on and it was a really hot day. I let it sit for an hour and drove it home. Hope that didnt do any damage.
